About Terry
Terry Carter was born in Baxley in 1962. The son of a single, troubled mother, from the age of seven on Terry was raised by his grandmother. They lived in public housing in Reidsville, Georgia and Terry grew up without the luxuries common to most children. However, thanks to the influence of his faith, education, and the love of his grandmother, Terry excelled.
After finishing high school in Reidsville, Terry enrolled at Brewton Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia. He later transferred to another Baptist institution, Shorter College, graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. He then worked for Xerox Corporation for 16 years, where he rose to become the top marketing professional in the company. Terry's entrepreneurial focus and business skills led him in 2000 to form his own company, TGC Properties. That company still builds affordable, quality single-family and multi-family homes for middle income families.
Terry married his wife, Theresa, in 1993. They are the proud parents of three children, William (12), Savina (9), and Marin (6). The Carter's are members of First Baptist Church of St. Simons Island.
Terry's volunteer and civic involvement includes serving as a volunteer coach for his son's baseball team, his daughter's soccer team, and the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic School tennis team. He is involved in dozens of community organizations and civic clubs including the Exchange Club of Brunswick (where he is a past President), the Marty Lyons Foundation, the Cub Scouts, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, The Rotary Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. In addition, Terry currently serves on the Board of Trustee's for Brewton Parker College and was a past member of the Shorter College Board of Trustees.
Terry's history of serving others, his formative childhood with its tough lessons, and his extensive community involvement have prompted him to run for the Georgia State Senate. He's a successful businessman who wants to bring his experience and common sense to Atlanta and represent all of the people who live in Senate District 3.
